After four days at LET Rookie Orientation, the LET’s newest members left Denia Marriott La Sella Golf and Spa Resort feeling fully prepared for the 2016 season.
After four days at LET Rookie Orientation, the LET’s newest members left Denia Marriott La Sella Golf and Spa Resort feeling fully prepared for the 2016 season.
At the event, the Rookies learned about the LET’s vision and values, the pre-tournament admin procedures, what to expect when playing in events, amendments to the Rules of Golf and what is expected of them in terms of support for PR and development activity. They were also provided with general information about life as a professional sportswoman and had the opportunity to take part in a Pro-Am.
Mike Round, Director of Development and Membership at the LET commented:
“Our aim is to make sure that the new members have a comprehensive introduction to the LET so that they understand the organisation, the ‘more than a Tour’ strategy and how the organisation works.” He added: “The new members are now ambassadors for the LET and for women’s golf so it’s important that we help them as they make the move into a major global tour.”
In addition to the information provided, the players played some fun games which helped them to get to know each other. Mike explained why this was important: “By establishing connections at the LET Orientation Days, the players will recognise friendly faces when they go to their first tournament.”
England-based Rosie Davies agreed that this was a key element of the week and said:
“It’s been so helpful meeting everybody and getting to know the fellow Rookies because I didn’t really know people that well. I went to university in America and didn’t really play much junior golf before in England, so I don’t really know any of the Europeans.”
Commenting on the venue, Rosie said: “The golf course is awesome, the hotel is amazing and the food has been brilliant.” Norwegian-based American, Emily Talley was grateful to the venue for the support it gave to the Orientation Days saying: “Thank you Denia Marriott and La Sella Golf for hosting the LET Rookie week. The hospitality was above and beyond.”
When asked about how valuable the week had been, American Emily Talley commented,
“I hope you understand how important this week was for me and how thankful I am to the you all and the LET for providing us with such wonderful and useful information. I am looking forward to this season so much and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the Ladies European Tour.”
The tour will kick off in two weeks time at the ISPS Handa New Zealand Women's Open.
