Bronte Law is back to defend her title as the LET starts its 2025 season at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco

The Ladies European Tour (LET) kicks off its 2025 season on Thursday with the prestigious Lalla Meryem Cup, taking place from February 6-8 at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam's Blue Course in Rabat, Morocco. Celebrating its 28th edition, the tournament boasts a prize fund of €450,000 and sets the stage for an exciting year ahead.

A global showcase

This event marks the first of 30 scheduled tournaments on the 2025 LET calendar, spanning five continents with a total prize fund of €39 million. The 108-player field is stacked with talent, featuring 97 LET players and 11 special invitations, promising a thrilling start to the season.

The tournament welcomes two recent LET Order of Merit winners: Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini (2024) and Thailand’s Trichat Cheenglab (2023). Defending champion Bronte Law of England returns to protect her title, alongside past winners Klara Davidson Spilkova (2017) and Nuria Iturrioz (2016, 2019).

Maria Fassi of Mexico, an LPGA standout who secured a tied third finish here in 2024, adds international flair to the lineup. The field spans 34 nationalities, highlighting the global appeal of the LET.

Defending Champions Bronte Law

Despite winning this tournament, Law will be approaching this week like any other tournament. “The danger for a lot of people is when you get to a tournament, you start doing things differently. I'll just do everything the same that I usually do, and I’m looking forward to being back out on the course,” said Law.

The 29-year-old returns to Morocco following an offseason which saw her get married in the UK.

“It didn't feel like there was much an offseason. It was amazing and really exciting. It was so incredible to have all of your family and friends on your special day to share that. It's all been a bit of a whirlwind, really, and back to work now.”

Reflecting on her 2024 performance, the 2024 Lalla Meryem Cup champion said: “There's lots of positives to take away. I really enjoyed playing a full season on the LET. I really like the community feel, and that to me is really important. I also finished fifth in the Order of Merit so I felt like I had a good year. There’s always things you could have done better but it was a year of learning, trying to capitalise on experiences, and be a better player. They’re successes on and off the golf course, and I'm looking forward to building on that, and bringing that momentum and great memories from last year.”

Home heroes and rising stars

Morocco proudly hosts five of its own talented stars: Ines Laklalech, who represented Morocco at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Maha Haddioui, Lina Belmati, Malak Bouraeda, and the 15-year-old prodigy Sofia Cherif Essakali, the youngest player in the field.

This season opener also features 20 LET rookies eager to make their mark. Notably, Daniela Darquea becomes Ecuador's first LET member after clinching victory at the Lalla Aicha Q-School in December. Sixteen-year-old Canadian Anna Huang, fresh off five Top 10 finishes in 2024, including a tied second at The Glencoe Invitational, Nike Junior Invitational, and Mizuho Americas Open, will be one to watch.

Parallel prestige: Hassan II Trophy

Running concurrently on the Red Course is the Hassan II Trophy, part of the PGA Champions Tour 2025 season. The field includes golf legends such as South Africa’s Ernie Els, Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie, America’s Tom Lehman, and Spain’s Jose Maria Olazabal, adding to the week's excitement.

As the LET embarks on another exciting season, the Lalla Meryem Cup sets the tone with a dynamic mix of seasoned champions, emerging talents, and local heroes, promising golf fans a fantastic start to 2025.
