We can think of no better person to do the honours.

The tee times have just been released for the 2020 AIG Women's Open at Royal Troon, and let's just say the event is starting on a high...

Dame Laura Davies herself has been chosen to hit the first tee shot of the tournament at 6.30am, and we can't think of a better person to do the honours.

This year marks the 40th (!!) time she has played in the British Open and she won the event in 1986, before any of the world's current top ten were even born.

Let's just let that sink in for a moment...

She will be playing with along with Northern Ireland player and Curtis Cup star Olivia Mehaffey, plus Canada's Alena Sharp.

Taking place from August 20 to 23, this is the first time the Major tournament will visit Royal Troon and the event will be held behind-closed-doors and with no spectators.

Other key groups to keep an eye on include Charley Hull,  last week's winner Stacy Lewis and 2016 Women's British Open winner Ariya Jutanugarn at 7.47am, plus Georgia Hall, World Number 4 Nelly Korda and Japan's Nasa Hataoka at 8.09am.

Georgia Hall told us links was her favourite type of golf and Scotland her favourite country.

She said:

"I played a casual round at Royal Troon about eight years ago, so I can't actually remember any of it and it;s kind of like playing it from new. I'm actually very excited to get back to a links course this year.

"I love that it's the most natural form of golf course. You have humps and bumps everywhere. You can have more than one shot; you can have five different shots to play, chip-and-runs. You really have to take in consideration the wind and then you can adapt your swing to that. It's just really creative and I really enjoy it, and every day is different."

The Women's Open has been recognised as a Major on the LPGA Tour since 2001 and although it may be organised a little differently this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are expecting just as much excitement and drama.

We've set our alarms for Thursday morning already.

If anyone is worth getting up before 6am for, it's Dame Laura.
