Korean Sei Young Kim has shattered Annika Sorenstam's 72-hole scoring title in more-than impressive fashion at this week's Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic.

After opening rounds of 63, 65, and 64, the question on everyone’s lips after Saturday’s round of the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic was whether Sei Young Kim would break Annika Sorenstam’s 72-hole scoring title, which then sat at 27-under par. There was no question that Kim could do it based on her performance over the first three days, but hardly anyone could have expected that she would do it with such ease.

Carding a 7-under par closing round of 65, Kim completely blew the former record out of the park, finishing with a tournament score of 31-under par and winning the championship by 9 shots.

Even with an eight-shot leading going into Sunday’s round, Kim never took her foot off the gas, rolling in a birdie putt at the 1st and following that up with six more birdies throughout the day. With just one above-par hole to speak of over the course of the tournament, Kim cruised to the win 9-shots ahead of Carlota Ciganda who closed her weekend with an 8-under par 64 to finish at 22-under par for the championship. Anna Nordqvist, Emma Talley, and Amy Yang all tied for third on 20-under.

This is the seventh career victory for the 25-year-old from Korea, and her first on the LPGA tour this season. Kim ranked as high as number eight in the world in 2017, but hadn’t quite got out of the starting blocks this year- that was, of course, until she completely exploded out this weekend in more-than impressive fashion.
