Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year winner, Jin Young Ko has claimed her first major at the ANA Inspiration this weekend, three shots ahead of Mi Hyang Lee.
Ko birdied the last to shoot a 2-under par 70 in Sunday's final round, claiming the major title at 10-under par. The Korean started the day just one shot ahead of In-Kyung Kim but responded by hitting fairways, hitting greens and making putts, never really opening the door for any of her challengers.
She carded sub-par rounds every day of the championship and did it in a totally calm and (what looked like) effortless rhythm. As the desert air grew hotter, her quiet pursuit for greatness got cooler, making us think this won't be the last major we see for Ko.
Carlota Ciganda finished with a 68 to tie for fourth at 5-under alongside Kim, closely followed by Kristen Gillman, Jessica Korda, Ally McDonald, Hyo Joo Kim, Kang and Jeongeun Lee6 at 4-under.
England's Charley Hull closed her tournament with a round of 70, 2-under par. She finished in a tie for 12th at 3-under alongside Jaye Marie Green, Jenny Shin, Moriya Jutanugarn, and Jing Yan.
