Highlights Of The Solheim Cup

Since the first Solheim Cup was held in 1990, the match has delivered fantastic golf, camaraderie, joy and disappointment, crowd involvement - all the ingredients that only a match play event can create. Here’s a selection of some of the record breaking and magical moments.

As the next edition of Women & Golf is on the shelves NOW, here’s a sneak preview of what you can expect from our FREE Solheim Cup Magazine with PING in the latest issue.

It’s the first time in Solheim Cup history that the US has employed the same captain, Juli Inkster, in three straight events. As a player, Inkster also holds the record for the most singles points won (7) and being the oldest at 51 years in 2011.

There has only ever been one hole-in-one at a Solheim Cup and it came for Europe’s Anna Nordqvist in 2013 at the 17th hole during a foursomes match with Caroline Hedwall against Morgan Pressel and Jessica Korda.

Members of the European team hold Captain Liselotte Neumann on their shoulders as they celebrate defeating the US (18-10) for the first time on American soil in the 2013 Solheim Cup at The Colorado Golf Club.

In 2015 the US won by a score of 141⁄2-131⁄2; the closest score in the history of the Cup. Going into the singles, the US trailed 10-6 and needed 81⁄2 more points to win back the Cup. The Americans did just that, with Creamer winning the final match to give the USA a one-point victory. It was the biggest comeback in Solheim Cup history.
