The Englishwoman started the day three behind overnight leader Nuria Itorrios, but played almost flawless golf in gusty conditions to rocket up the leaderboard.
Reid, who is looking to secure her place in this year's European Solheim Cup team, carded eight birdies in ten holes during the middle of her round as she placed shot after shot close to the pin.
It looked as though she was on her way to a new Ladies European Tour scoring record but Reid, who now plays primarily on the LPGA after securing her tour card in December, bogied the par-5 sixteenth after finding a plugged lie in a greenside bunker.
‘All in all, I’m very happy. A four-shot lead is a great position to be in going into the final round but with the player’s sitting behind me there’s no chance I will be taking my foot off the gas tomorrow,’ Reid commented.
The chasing pack looks somewhat like a who’s who of European golf, with Reid’s likely Solheim Cup teammates Carlota Ciganda, Anna Nordqvist, Azahara Munoz and Florentyna Parker sharing second place.
Englishwomen Parker, was among the players invited to a gathering hosted by European Captain Annika Sorenstam earlier in the week, but assured us that her focus is very much on the game at hand.
‘Yes, the Solheim Cup is in my reach but I’m just focusing on the process. If I play well then the scores will speak for themselves.’
Home favourite Ciganda thrilled the sizable crowds at Club De Golf Terramar, in Sitges, near Barcelona, with an inspired seven-under-par 64, which included six birdies and an eagle, while compatriot Munoz matched her second round 67 to ensure that the crowds will have plenty to cheer about going down the home stretch tomorrow.
First round leader Anna Nordqvist, proved that she shouldn’t be counted out, after the World No. 10 aced the 13th to guarantee that she will be in the mix come Sunday.
