Lydia Ko's World No. 1 spot appears to be in jeopardy after another poor start at the LOTTE Championship Presented by Hershey in Hawaii.
The New Zealander fired a first round one-over-par 73, as she bids to prolong her 76-week reign at the top. The nineteen-year-old sits down in T86 and will need a good round tomorrow if she is to make the cut.
So Yeon Ryu, who won her second major title at the ANA Inspiration two weeks ago, could ascend to the top spot with victory this week and started strongly with a first round four-under-par 68. Ariya Jutanugarn who also has a chance of toppling Ko this week, is just one shot behind the Korean after an opening three-under-par 69, and three behind the target set by first round leaders Paula Creamer and Mi Hyang Lee.
England's Bronte Law made a great start to the tournament with an opening 69, which puts her in T17, while Welshwoman Becky Morgan went one shot better with a 68, and is on course for her best finish of the season.
