Brittany Lincicome kicked off the 2017 season by setting a new tournament scoring record, nine-under par 64, at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic at Ocean Club Golf Course to take the outright lead.
The two-time major champion sits two-strokes ahead of Stacy Lewis, P.K. Kongkraphan and Megan Khang.
“I was making everything. 30-footers, 10-footers, five-footers. It was a pretty easy day,” Lincicome said after her round.
“I was driving it well, hitting it well, putting, making everything. It was one of those days where it’s like wow, is it too good to be true for it to keep going for three more days?”
Lydia Ko decided to skip the tournament to continue her pre-season preparation, while LPGA Player of the Year Ariya Jutanugarn started the season slowly with a 75.
England's Mel Reid is the leading Brit after an opening round of 70 puts her on T25, while Charley will need a low round tomorrow if she hopes to make the cut. She fired a three-over-par 76.
