Amateur Eun Jeong Seong sits in a share of second, at four-under par, behind Frenchwoman Karine Icher at the wind delayed ANA Inspiration, the first major of the season.
The South Korean, who became the first person in history to win both the US Women's and Girls' Championship in the same year, was helped by a hole-in-one at the par three, 5th hole, becoming the first amateur ever to record an ace at the tournament.
It's is Icher however who sits atop the leaderboard at the wind suspended event, with half of the field yet to complete their round.
Icher, who has scored 43 career top-10s on the LPGA Tour without ever recording a win, carded a five-under par, 67 on day one.
“I'm probably the player with the most top 10s without winning, so I'm used to it,” Icher told the media. “I'm going to keep focused and keep my game on and try to sink some putts, and we'll see from there.”
Michelle Wie sits in a share of second at four-under par alongside So Yeon Ryu, Sung Hyun Park and amateur Eun Jeong Seong. The 2014 runner-up at Mission Hills partnered 14-year-old amateur Lucy Li who earned her way into the field by winning the ANA Junior Inspiration on Sunday and also managed to break par.
“I'm really impressed with her round, how she plays,” Wie told the media. “She must have been nervous today, but she carried herself really well and acted really mature beyond her years. And she was a great player. I had a lot of fun playing with her.”
Defending champion Lydia Ko was two-under through five holes when play was suspended, while Charley Hull sits on the same score through seven.
