We've been waiting for this moment all summer...

Ellie Givens has become the first female winner on the 2020protour, and potentially the first female to ever win a UK-based individual mixed gender tour.

With both the 2020protour and Clutch Pro Tour offering the chance for the very best female amateur and Ladies European Tour players to compete against the men this summer, we knew it wouldn't be long before we saw a female winner. The question was just who and where.

Well, now we have the answer.

Ellie Givens finished 4 under at Rockliffe Hall yesterday (July 20), tying for the top of the leaderboard along with fellow Rockliffe member Andrew Wilson.

In fact, several women finished in the top 10 with both Gemma Clews from Delamere Forest and Jess Baker from Gosforth Park both at T6 and one under.

But as well as a victory for female players across the country, it was also a personal victory for Ellie.

Her victory at Rockliffe marked her first professional win since she turned pro in 2012, with her last top-10 finish being at the Hero Women's Indian Open in 2018. The fact that it was at her home club also made it extra special.

Speaking on Twitter, Ellie said:

"Yesterday was a good day! Pleased with my round, and happy to be the first female winner on the 2020protour. It was my first time playing an event on my home course & I’m so glad that Andrew Wilon and I both representedRockliffe Golf as well."

Many have reached out to offer their congratulations to Ellie, including the Ladies European Tour and founders of the 2020protour Chris Hanson and Adam Walker.

Speaking exclusively to W&G, Hanson said:

“We set out with a vision to provide more playing opportunities for male and female golfers and we are continuing to strive towards a successful equitable policy.

It’s been amazing to see the positive response towards the 2020protour and fantastic to see female golfers competing for the top spot against male golfers.

We can't wait to see what happens on the rest of the tour!

The next event is coming up on July 22 at Worksop Golf Club, and we will be streaming it live on our Facebook page through ContentLIVE Golf.
