It rained nearly all day on Friday in South Korea, and to make a long, cold and soggy day even longer, players had to turn around after their second matches to start their third. The aim was to get as much golf in as possible before the typhoon hit on Saturday, which for obvious reasons delayed play altogether.
After the second session of matches, the English flag stood proudly at the top of the Pool A leaderboard, though the third round opponents, home-side South Korea, proved more difficult to beat.
In the morning, England defeated Chinese Taipei in both fourball clashes. Hull and Hall beat Wei-Ling HSU and Teresa Lu 2&1 after birdies at 10, 13 and 16. Law and Ewart Shadoff's victory was even more convincing, winning their match 6&4 against Candie Kung and Phoebe Yao.
The afternoon was, unfortunately, a different story, and both English pairings lost before reaching the 17th; Hull and Hall lost by 4&2 to Sung Hyun Park and In-Kyun Kim, whilst Law and Ewart Shadoff lost by 4&3 to In Gee Chun and So Yeon Ryu.
All things considered, the defeat was by no means a reflection of bad golf from the English women. England was ranked number 4 heading into the competition, while the host team was the heavy favourite. South Korea's team is full of major winners - a total of seven majors combined among the foursome. Compare that to just one major for England's Georgia Hall, and even she's playing while ill with laryngitis this weekend!
The four teams to progress through to today's singles matches are South Korea, US, England, Sweden and Thailand.
