Having started the final round one shot off the lead, Danielle Kang carded a 3-under par 69 to win the Buick LPGA Shanghai by two strokes for her second career title.
Danielle Kang has openly talked about her mental demons, telling fans that she has struggled with anxiety for much of this season, and for the first nine in the final round of the Buick LPGA Shanghai Championship, those demons almost the got the better of her. After finishing the third round just one shot off the pace, Kang bogeyed the 4th to make the turn at 1-over par.
Then, after a heart-to-heart with her caddie, Kang spent the back nine proving that she is a champion.
"After nine holes I had a temper tantrum," Kang said. "[Ollie] told me to go off to the side and we did. Hit the bag; do whatever you need to do to let your anger out and start a new nine".
And that's exactly what she did. Kang carded four birdies in the last eight holes to shoot 69 and finish the tournament at 13-under par, two strokes clear of Lydia Ko, Marina Alex, Annie Park, Wenbo Lu, Brittany Altomare, Ariya Jutanugarn and Sei Young Kim.
After a steady week, England's Bronte Law finished just behind the pack of players tied in 2nd. With a tournament score of 10-under par, she shared a tie of 9th place with Yu Liu and Carlota Ciganda, who started the final round tied for the lead with Kim.
Jodi Ewart Shadoff shot one of the lowest scores of the tournament during Saturday's round with a 7-under par 65. Though she couldn't quite maintain that momentum in the final round, a level-par day on Sunday left her in a tie for the 17th spot.
