Cristie Kerr and her caddie were taken to hospital with 'multiple serious injuries' after a golf buggy accident at the VOA Classic.

American LPGA star Cristie Kerr has been forced to forced to withdraw from the Volunteers of America Classic after she was injured in a golf buggy accident early yesterday morning (December 4).

According to GolfWeek, the 20-time LPGA winner's husband, Erik Stevens, confirmed that the accident occurred in dark conditions prior to play at the Old American Golf Club, Texas on Friday morning.

Cristie and her caddie, Matt Gelczis, then spent several hours at hospital in the emergency room with multiple serious injuries.

Both were discharged late yesterday afternoon and the extent of their injuries remains unknown.

43-year-old Cristie shot 72 and one over in the first freezing round of the event.

A former World Number No 1 and mother of two, it hasn't yet been confirmed if her injuries will force her to pull out of next week's US Women's Open, set for December 10 to 13.

The two-time major winner, who also runs a successful winery, Ker Cellars, alongside playing on Tour, won the US Women's Open back in 2007 and she hasn't missed an edition of the major tournament since 1998.

We wish her and her caddy a speedy recovery and we hope to see her teeing off in Houston next week.

Round 3 of the VOA Classic kicks of today with Anna Nordqvist, Jessica Korda and Yealimi Noh currently tied for the lead.
