Olympic medallist Chloe Rogers (Celtic Manor) recorded her first WPGA One Day series win of the season in the fifth round of the series held at Chestfield Golf Club with a three-over-par round of 74.

The display maintained her challenge for the WPGA Order of Merit title after pipping Katie Rule, of Falmouth Golf Club, by one shot.

Rogers changed sports after retiring from international hockey. She won a bronze medal for Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics before deciding to switch to golf.

“I felt I’d achieved a lot in hockey and I always planned to return to golf,” said Rogers. I started off with golf and wanted to come back, but it’s a very different feeling. In a team like hockey, you can have a bad day and the team can pull you through and you win, but in golf you have to motivate yourself a lot more. I’m enjoying it though and this win means a lot.”

Rogers, from Harlow in Essex, admitted she has had a consistent season without recording a victory.

“I think it’d been coming,” she said. I’d had a second and a third place so it was good to finally get a win under my belt. I’m trying to play in as many rounds as possible but I will probably miss the next one as it clashes with the PGA West Women’s Championship. There are some strong players in the region so I’d like to play that. But I hope to be back after that.”

Rogers represented England and Great Britain 162 times, and won nine medals including two bronze medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games. She has just completed the first year of her PGA training and is based at the famous Ryder Cup venue Celtic Manor.
