South African Ashleigh Buhai maintained her lead on the second day of the AIG Women's British Open after she followed yesterday's 65 with a flawless, bogey-free 67 and leads by two shots from Japan’s Hinako Shibuno, who is making her major championship debut.
“My goal going out today was to get it to double figures, 10-under or better. Once I got it to 8, 9, 10-under, I felt more comfortable and was able to put my foot down,” said the 30-year-old from Johannesburg.
Lizette Salas, the charismatic American, sits in third place on 8-under-par after shooting a second round 69 that began with four consecutive birdies on the Woburn’s Marquess Course.
In a tightly packed leaderboard, five players are one shot further back on 7-under-par and among those is England’s Bronte Law, who shot a 67 to match her 70 on day one. The 24-year old from Stockport, who played both rounds alongside European Solheim Cup Captain, Catriona Matthew, knew that she was been closely watched before this year's European team is announced on 12 August.
“It’s like when you’re younger at school and you’re in front of the teacher so they can keep an eye on you. But obviously with it being a major the goal is to play well, and it’s not so much that I’m worried about the Solheim, I have a job to do” said Law, who has surely done enough to secure a captain’s pick for next month’s match at Gleneagles.

Indeed there are still two rounds to play, but Matthew must be delighted by the form that other European players are showing, as Celine Boutier, Charley Hull, and Caroline Masson form part of the group on 7-under-par, whilst reigning champion Georgia Hall and Carlotta Ciganda closed on 6-under.
