GolfSixes introduces a world first this year, headed up by Catriona Matthew and featuring some of Europe’s best female professionals- and we're giving away tickets to be there!
The innovative GolfSixes returns to the European Tour in May, and this time the revolutionary short form of golf will feature a world first. European Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjørn and Solheim Cup Captain Catriona Matthew will become the first male and female professionals to play together in a competitive match play format when they team up to form a Captain’s Team – one of four exciting wildcard entries, which also include some of Europe’s top female professionals.
The second edition of GolfSixes takes place at Centurion Club in St Albans, on May 5-6, 2018. The fast and fun six-hole format starts with teams split into four groups of four, similar to the UEFA Champions League football group stages, before the top two teams from each group progress to the knockout stages – the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, a 3rd/4th place play-off match and the final – all of which will be contested on Sunday May 6. In the group stages, three points will be given for victory with one point given for a draw, while the matches themselves will be played in a greensomes match play format.
The home nation will be represented by two teams this year with Eddie Pepperell and Matt Wallace joined by wildcard entries, Georgia Hall and Charley Hull, who team up in the first-ever England Women’s Team. They’re not the only women set to stick it to the men though as they’ll also be joined by the European Women’s Team’ of Norwegian Suzann Pettersen and England’s Mel Reid, another exciting wildcard team this year.
The 16-team field includes defending champions Denmark, plus a host of European Tour winners from around the world.
