Tiverton's ladies won the Western Morning News Cup at Downes Crediton, while their juniors finished runners-up in the English Junior Champion Club Championship at Woodhall Spa, Lincs.

Tiverton's ladies won the Western Morning News Cup for the third time in four years at Downes Crediton Golf Club.

Tiverton beat 13 other clubs from North and East Devon in the foursomes team competition, in which the two best scores count from three nominated pairs.

Sue Persey and Alison Hilton led the way with 38 stableford points in testing conditions.

Jo Lloyd-Davies and Carolyn Maynard backed them up with 27, giving Tiverton a team total of 65 and a one-point victory over Crediton.

Anto Hajduk and Marian Stevens were Tiverton's third nominated pair.

The pairs competition attracted a total of 50 entrants and Persey and Hilton won it with 38, three ahead of a duo from Crediton.

Tiverton finished runners-up in the rain-hit English Junior Champion Club Championship at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire. The tournament was reduced to 18 holes after the second round was abandoned due to waterlogging on the Bracken Course.

Tiverton lay second on 71 stableford points on the first day after Tom Trowbridge posted 38 playing off three and junior captain Tom Hanson carded 33 off four.

Saltford, Llanymynech and The Gloucester also came in with 71 but Tiverton prevailed because Grace Jackson, with 32 off six, had the highest score of the third players in each team. Tiverton were also going well on the second day before the players were called in, with Trowbridge and Jackson both level with their handicap after 12 and Hanson two over after 13. The result eclipsed Tiverton's third-place finish in 2011. Cosby, from Leicestershire and Rutland, took the title with 72.
