The first round of the ANWA was suspended due to inclement weather with 29 players still out on the course

It was a tough first day for the 82 competitors of the Augusta National Women's Amateur as they took on Champions Retreat on Wednesday. The wind and rain made it difficult to score and when the hooter sounded, only six players were under par.

At the top of the leader board was University of Nebraska's Kate Smith who sits at four-under, with an uphill seven-footer for par on the par-4 12th to complete. Even though she is yet to finish her round, she certainly had the best performance of the day and seems to be relishing the opportunity:

"I'm just excited for another day out there. I have everything to gain this week," she said.

Kate Smith and Rose Zhang

World No. 1 Rose Zhang, finished the round at 1-under and is in a five-way tie for second place. Cheyenne Woods, who is commentating for the Golf Channel, was impressed with Zhang's performance on day one, in particular, her impressive ball striking.

Annabell Fuller

As for some of the British and Irish players, England's Annabell Fuller leads the way after shooting a round of 72 to finish on even par and is currently tied seventh. Lily May Humphries, one of our ones to watch, is at four over after 13 holes and Northern Ireland's Olivia Mehaffey shot a 3-over 75 and goes into day two tied for 32nd place.
