Sheffield’s Beauchief Golf Course have launched a new ladies only coaching programme spearheaded by by former European tour golfer Fame Tate - which hopes to inspire more women to play the game.

Women who want to try their hand at golf will soon have access to a new ladies only coaching programme at Sheffield’s Beauchief Golf Course.

Operated by SIV, the new Ladies Group Golf Coaching hopes to inspire more women to take up the sport.

The sessions, spearheaded by former European tour golfer Fame Tate, have been designed both for women who have never played golf before and for those who want to improve their existing skills.

Each group coaching session will have a maximum of six women of similar playing ability and will see them coached by Fame herself or Joe Froggatt, Professional Golf Association (PGA) coach based at Beauchief. Each player will also receive a free, made to measure PGA golf club when they sign up.

Beginners will be able to learn the basic techniques and those with some experience will have the chance to develop their skills further, taking them to the next level in the sport.

The launch in Sheffield follows the success of the programme at SIV’s Tapton Park Golf Course in Chesterfield, which began in 2013.

Andy Carnall, golf manager at SIV, said: “People often have the perception that golf is more of a man’s sport so, by rolling out the Ladies Group Golf Coaching across more of our courses we hope to change these perceptions and give women who want to have a go the chance to play in a relaxed atmosphere.

“We hope the women will be inspired by this great initiative and that we will see the popularity of the sport amongst women increase.

“Golf is also a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy, with players often covering a few miles across a course. Not only that, but it can be a really good way of meeting other people who are interested in the sport.”
