Starting in Australia and finishing in French Polynesia, events are taking place across the globe today in celebration of women and girl’s golf

Women’s Golf Day, the global movement that engages, empowers, and supports females through golf, is an annual one-day sporting and community celebration taking place today – Tuesday June 7th!

WGD was founded by Elisa Gaudet in 2016.  Now in its 7th year, WGD unites people across the globe through golf.  Starting in Australia and ending in French Polynesia, events will take place for 24 hours straight.  There are events in every continent, apart from Antarctica.

The Events

The events allow a simple and accessible platform to build a golf foundation and skills that will last a lifetime. It creates a network to support the continuation of golf no matter what skill level or interest, while engaging women in an empowering initiative with global impact from a local level. The event transcends race, gender, religion, language, geography or economic status.

The Ambassadors

Over the years WGD has inspired a number of volunteers to join in the organisation of the day. Probably the least well known are the country Ambassadors who work to promote WGD within their country and recruit venues to sign up and host events.

The Ambassadors come from various parts of the golf industry. From business owners, to PGA Professionals to national governing body representatives and golf enthusiasts. Women and men across the world who join together to promote this global celebration of women and girl’s golf.

Here’s how four of the Ambassadors will be celebrating Women’s Golf Day this year.

Mitsuru Hidaka, WGD Ambassador for Japan, will be at AIE Sunclassic Golf Club:

“In Japan, we are developing golf by promoting activities that create and increase the number of female golfers, which is what Women's Golf Day advocates.  From the perspective of a novice female golfer we are supporting the expansion of a 9-hole scramble format which is rewarding and fun for all participants.”

Rita Apell, Lady Captain at Entebbe G.C. and WGD Ambassador for Uganda.

“This is the fourth year that we will be running events. We have invited business women and schools to attend our events.

“We are very excited for Women’s Golf Day as it fosters the creation of new friendships and supports the increase in the number of ladies joining the game of golf here in Uganda”

Anna Zabłocka–Wiercińska, WGD Ambassador for Polish Ambassador, will be attending an event at The Olympic Golf Club in Warsaw:

“The Polish Women's Golf Association joined this initiative from its very beginning. Women’s Golf Day supports both new and experienced golfers by teaching and developing their skills that will pay off throughout their lives.  This is an event during which you can meet golfers with whom you will arrange the next round ... which is so important.“

Leslee Moger, WGD Ambassador for UK:

“It’s very important that as a community we continue to support and encourage our sisters who may be eager but uncertain how to join our sport. Women’s Golf Day is an excellent opportunity to spotlight the growing tribe of women across the world who are discovering and rediscovering the friendship and fun that a round of golf provides.”

On the day, participants are encouraged to wear red and white, and share photos and posts from WGD events on social media tagging @womensgolfday and using the hashtags #womensgolfday and #WGDunites.
