Just over a week after Muirfield voted to accept women members, Kasumigaseki Country Club has changed its membership policy to meet the demands of the International Olympic Committee.

The Japanese club had originally been approached to host both the men's and women's Olympic golf tournament, but the offer was later under threat of being retracted after it came to light that female membership at the club was restricted.

The Tokyo 2020 organising committee says the club's regulations have been changed following a unanimous decision by the executive board.

"On behalf of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, I'd like to extend my gratitude to the members of the club for their understanding and cooperation," said committee president Yoshiro Mori.
