Club Managers Association of Europe (CMAE) and The R&A to help three aspiring female golf club managers with bursaries for the next three years
The R&A’s commitment to making golf more diverse goes beyond just those taking to the golf course. They are now working with the European Club Education Foundation (ECEF), the education arm of the Club Managers Association of Europe (CMAE) to provide three bursaries for aspiring female golf club managers for the next three years.
The R&A bursaries will fund a place on CMAE’s very successful MDP education programme. Starting with a place on MDP 1 it is hoped that each successful applicant will progress to obtain their Club Management Diploma (CMDip) as it is seen as the club industry’s benchmark management qualification.
Three bursaries from The R&A
As part of its commitment to encouraging more women and girls into golf, The R&A has funded the three bursaries. Jackie Davidson, Assistant Director – Golf Development at The R&A, said:
“We are delighted to supporting these bursaries for female club managers to continue to progress with their education via CMAE.
“The R&A is committed to growing women and girls’ golf through the Women in Golf Charter and personal development and ongoing education through the CMAE pathway is very important.”
Women in Golf Charter
Launched in May 2018 by The R&A, the Women in Golf Charter aims to increase women and girls’ participation and membership in golf, encourage more families to enjoy golf as a leisure activity and encourage more opportunities for women to work and volunteer in the golf industry.
Role models in club management are key to demonstrating the opportunity for women to see the profession as a career option within the golf industry.
Marc Newey CCM CCE of ECEF is also thrilled and said:
“For ECEF and CMAE to work with The R&A in such an important mission, providing more opportunities for women in club management is wonderful. I am sure we will have lots of applicants.”
