One of the last remaining courses men-only courses might soon be permitting female members after it was revealed that Muirfield is to hold a vote on the issue.
One of the last remaining courses men-only courses might soon be permitting female members after it was revealed that Muirfield is to hold a vote on the issue.
According to the Sunday Times a decision on female membership at Muirfield, the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, will be reached through a postal ballot.
With Royal St. George's approving female membership last year, Royal Troon and Muirfield remain the only clubs on the Open roster to exclusively admit men as members. The decision is likely to put pressure on Troon to consider permitting female members ahead of their staging of the 2016 British Open.
Muirfield has hosted 16 British Opens, the last in 2013, which was won by Phil Mickelson.
