Long Drive Championship

1150 golfers teed it up at American Golf stores over the Bank Holiday weekend in an effort to qualify for the Grand Final of the American Golf Long Drive Championship in association with Garmin.

With the ultimate prize of a trip to the U.S. to take part in a World Long Drive Championship qualifier on the line the biggest hitters in the country took on the challenge, driving a total of 276,940 yards, or 157 miles!

There were a number of monster drives, well in excess of 300 yards, in the competition with the winners in each of the three categories (Open, >45 and Ladies) on a par with the biggest hitters on Tour. Each of the 16 regional qualifiers win an S6 or G8 GPS from Garmin and every store winner gets a Garmin Vivoactive watch.

Daniel Gathercole, Head of Marketing at American Golf commented, “We had a fantastic response from the longest hitters to families who just wanted to compete among themselves. This has been a great fun way to get people golfing and we can’t wait to see what the final produces.”

Competition in the final is sure to be fierce with the finest of margins separating the top 5 qualifiers. The event will be held at the newly opened American Golf National Academy at High Legh on 21 August, when music, drinks and a party atmosphere will accompany the Friday night competition. All are welcome!
