Ladies covered a fair distance at the Silvermere Golf Complex in Surrey last week for Women & Golf’s reader event, and that was before they had even set foot on the 1st tee!
Silvermere is home to one of the largest fashion boutiques in the UK and includes every golf brand you can think of, so after a buffet breakfast there was no time to waste, and ladies were happy to show off some of their new purchases, along with a pair of Freedom Polarised sunglasses that were gifted to each player in a generous goodie bag. On a glorious day, the Calypso sun cream came in handy too!
For Christine Farley, perhaps her success on the day had been written in the stars, as it was by chance that she picked up a copy of Women & Golf magazine at a local newsagent and decided at the eleventh hour to enter with three golfing friends, Di Heavey, Jess Howard and Helen Johnson. This winning team amassed 82 points with the best two Stableford scores from four counting and they were delighted to win a Surprizeshop holdall, socks and a bottle of fizz.
But that wasn’t the only prize for Christine, as she also won nearest-the-pin and with 36 points, she was the top individual and won a Daily Sports/Surprizeshop voucher for £150. It was a close affair, as Laura Greenfield took second place with 35 points, and Jane Stephen was one point further back in third. They won vouchers to the value of £100 and £75 respectively. Debbie Reynolds won a prize for the longest drive.
After collecting her prizes, an emotional Christine said:
“I was chuffed to be able to just write my name on a nearest the pin marker let alone win all the other glorious prizes.”
There was much laughter to be heard as players enjoyed a well-earned meal, new friends were made and many ladies are now looking forward to the next Women & Golf event.
