High profile LET member Suzann Pettersen understands the importance of knowing the Rules of Golf, which is why she has been recruited by The R&A, alongside Padraig Harrington, to be a Working for Golf Ambassador.
Part of her role involves guiding users through The R&A’s impressive Online Rules Academy.
The Rules Academy is an online course developed by The R&A to promote an understanding of etiquette and the most commonly occurring Rules situations. It features videos, images and diagrams and includes revision questions after each section. At the end of the course there is an opportunity to take the R&A’s Level 1 Rules Exam.
In order to highlight how important it is for the Rookies to have a sound knowledge of the Rules of Golf, they are being required to take the Rules Academy course and complete the exam.
As the LET’s Director of Development, Mike Round pointed out, “Unnecessary penalties could be costly in terms of prize money, Order of Merit places or even a spot on the Solheim Cup team.”
All of the Rookies will receive a certificate of achievement once they have passed the exam. In addition, The R&A is helping the LET to produce a special leaderboard so that the Rookie who performs best in the exam will be presented with a Quaich donated by The R&A. This is also being supported by ic! berlin, who will provide the top two Rookies with high quality sunglasses.
David Rickman, the Executive Director, Rules and Equipment Standards for The R&A said, “Having a good grasp of etiquette and the most commonly occurring Rules is of benefit to all golfers, whether you are a beginner or experienced, or even an elite player on the Ladies’ European Tour. We are delighted that the LET shares our belief in the importance of etiquette and the Rules of Golf by endorsing the Rules Academy in this way.”
The Quaich and ic! berlin sunglasses will be presented at a special gathering of the Rookies prior to the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.
