LET professional Heather MacRae joins FirstPoint USA’s golf team and is looking forward to helping young golfers find success in the States.

Macrae, a former British Ladies Champion and two-time winner on the LET Access Tour is taking a step back from playing after 10 years on the Tour to oversee FirstPoint’s growing roster of prospective student-athlete golfers.

Having won the Scottish Girls Championship, Heather moved to McLennan Junior College in Texas and won the individual NJCAA National Championship in 2003, and helped the Highlanders win the Team Championship in her freshman year. That success earned her a transfer to San Diego State University, where she had three top-10 finishes and was the Aztecs top player in her senior year ahead of winning the British Ladies title at Nairn.

Heather turned professional after graduating in 2007 and did her PGA training at Gullane and Gleneagles. She earned her Tour card for the first time in 2013, with her best finish being a sixth place at the Ladies Scottish Open in her maiden season. Her two LET Access Tour wins came in Sweden and Belgium, and she is a record four-time winner of the Women’s PGA Championship. In 2022, she become the first female winner of a Tartan Tour Order of Merit event, clinching victory at Strathmore in the OOM Challenge with rounds of 69 and 62.

FirstPoint USA: Supporting student-athletes in the States

FirstPoint’s golfing alum features 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett and two-time PGA Tour winner Russell Knox, and Heather will be teaming up with another former Tour pro Callum Macaulay, who heads up the agency’s golf activities.

“It feels like the right time to make the transition out of Tour. The past season was the first time where playing tournament golf felt a bit of strain, but I knew I wanted to stay connected to golf and the opportunity to work in a different capacity helping young golfers is something I am relishing,” said MacRae.

“When I was coming through the college golf recruitment process, I didn’t have the knowledge to really make an informed decision, so I am looking forward to helping players and their families by passing on my own insight and experience, with FirstPoint’s fantastic network behind me.

“I am very passionate about supporting young golfers and I’m a big advocate of the collegiate golf system. Playing in the States prepares you well not only for your professional career but for life in general. You grow up very quickly, but you have great teammates and coaches around you.” she added.

Macaulay, who recently managed FirstPoint USA’s first WAGR counting golf tournament at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, is looking forward to having a familiar face on the team.

“Heather is a terrific addition to our Talent Management team and brings a wealth of experience to the role. I know our young golfing prospects will benefit from her insights and experience, and she will also carry the respect of the coaches within our network having had a successful collegiate and Tour career.

“It’s fantastic to have someone of Heather’s standing on our staff as we build our golf activity further and I’m looking forward to having her on board for our next golf event, which takes place in Abu Dhabi in February.”
