With a convincing 5-0 win away at Harborne Golf Club in Birmingham, Cosby ladies are through to the quarter finals of the prestigious National Classic Mail on Sunday tournament for the first time in the club's history.

Although fielding a strong team including club and Leicestershire ladies county champion, non-playing team captain Jo Pepper was wary of the challenge that lay ahead at Harborne. Having taken most of the team for a practice round Jo was well aware that, perhaps more than most away courses so far played, Harborne definitely had advantage in local knowledge.

"It's undulating with some really tight, difficult holes where not knowing exactly where to land your ball will cost dearly," said Jo. "At this stage of the competition we expect a tough match and Harborne definitely have the edge with a home draw," she added.

Cosby's team of five obviously saw it differently and despite a couple of the ladies giving a significant number of shots, the closest match was the first, which went to the 18th for a 2up victory for 17 year old Briony Allen.

The team are excited and motivated by the thought of a trip to Spain and eagerly await the draw for the quarter-finals – the final hurdle before a trip to El Rompido in Spain to contest the grand finals.
