Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club got the golfing season off to a flying start when LET rookie Inci Mehmet and her mentor Sir Clive Woodward hosted a special evening at the club.
Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club got the golfing season off to a flying start earlier this month when Ladies European Tour rookie Inci Mehmet and her mentor Sir Clive Woodward gave members an insight into the world of professional sport during a sell-out evening at the Richmond-based club.
Inci, 20, recently won her full tour card on the Ladies European Tour and is regarded as one of the country’s most promising young female players. She joined the club as a junior seven years ago and has had a glittering amateur career, including winning the Surrey County Girls Championship. Her handicap at the time of turning professional was an impressive +4.5.
Sir Clive, the head coach who led England to glory at the 2003 Rugby World Cup and helped Team GB to success as Director of Sport at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, is assisting Inci in her golfing career with a unique programme that he has put together.
Sir Clive said:
“When I first met Inci it was clear she had the talent to succeed. What I am helping to do is to use my coaching experience to put a programme in place that will allow Inci to maximise her talent.
“Provided Inci continues to work hard and with the continued support of Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club, I am confident she has the ability to become one of the very best players on the LET and we will be doing everything to support her in that goal,” he added.
The club, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, is looking forward to an exciting year, including hosting the Men’s Surrey Championships in June, the English Women’s Open Matchplay Championship in July and a Pro-am on the JH Taylor course in September. There is also a 125 Anniversary Competition sponsored by the R&A that is open to all local golfers, plus a Hickory competition with vintage clubs and clothing.
Royal Mid-Surrey currently offers a limited number of membership options and visitor green fee times are available on weekdays.
