For the first time in the history of Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club a lady has been appointed Vice-Captain.

The Club was co-founded in 1851 by non-other than Tom Morris and in the intervening 166 years has had a succession of men at the helm. This is likely to change in the near future as Mrs Annette Paterson was overwhelmingly voted on to the position of Vice-Captain at the Club’s AGM held on Thursday 30 March 2017. She will be confirmed as the first ever Captain of Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club at the AGM to be held in March 2018.

Mrs Paterson, who is retired, had a highly successful a career in education and was for 20 years Principal Teacher and Depute Head of Kingcase Primary School in Prestwick.

She is a fitness fanatic and a qualified fitness coach as well as having been an active member at St Nicholas for nearly 15 years. Annette was for 6 years on the committee of the Ladies Section, where she was Captain.

She has also served for 3 years on the main Club Management Committee, latterly as Social Convenor and has just achieved her Level 1 Golf Coaching qualification.

Annette said she was ‘honoured to have been nominated as the first ever lady Vice-Captain of the Club in which Tom Morris was a member when he won the first three of his four Open Championships’.
