Dorothy Scholes, of Harwood Golf Club, has been elected the first female President of the Bury and District Golf Association at a historic AGM held last Thursday.
Dorothy Scholes, of Harwood Golf Club, has been elected the first female President of the Bury and District Golf Association at a historic AGM last Thursday.
Scholes will be the first women to take up the role since 1938, when the association, which encompasses Men’s, Ladies and Junior golf in the area, was formed.
She takes over the role from Derek Cropper of Rossendale Golf Club, after previously serving as Secretary of the Association.
Scholes took up golf in the late 1980s and has been a member of Harwood and Walmersley Golf Club who both form part of the eight membered BDGA. She has served both clubs in several roles including Lady Captain of Walmersley GC in 2000 and is a former winner of the Ping FourBall Grand Final competition.
