Golf buggies donated from Queen's Park Golf Club in Dorset are helping transport the elderly to a COVID-19 vaccination centre in Bournemouth.

Golf buggies loaned from the council-run Queen's Park Golf Club in Bournemouth are being used to help elderly people and those with mobility issues arrive comfortably and safely at the Dorset HealthCare COVID-19 vaccination centre.

The 'Vaccs express' buggy service came about after staff became concerned that some visitors were finding the steep climb from the carpark to the Purbeck Hall entrance very challenging.

They then contacted BCP Council who were happy to loan the community and mental health trust six golf buggies to shuttle vulnerable people to and from their vaccination appointments.

Golf buggies to the rescue

Staff at Queen's Park Golf Club said they were thrilled to be able to help.

Commenting on social media, said they: "We're delighted to be working closely with Dorset Health to provide our golf buggies. Supporting the new shuttle service is vital for many of our residents to access the vaccination centre safely."

Meanwhile, local councillor Nicola Greene said: "As our Queen’s Park golf course isn’t currently open these buggies were not in use. So we’re delighted to see them pressed into service to support some of our less mobile residents when they come to get their jab. It’s wonderful to see them enjoy their short trip up the hill!

"Responding to all aspects of this pandemic is a team effort and the council continues to work closely with NHS colleagues to provide the help our communities need."

We think it's a lovely gesture and a brilliant use of resources while courses are closed.

Queen's Park is a former championship course that was once a regular feature on the European Tour.
