One of their players is ten-year-old Poppy Cooper, who dreams of being a professional golfer. Her idol is Georgia Hall, Ladies European Tour star and Ricoh Women’s British Open champion.

Like many of the other junior players at Cams Hall Estate Golf Club, Poppy is a very keen golfer but this has to be balanced with other leisure pursuits and of course, homework.

She is just one of twenty-five young golf enthusiasts who take part in the weekly Golf Hangout, the youngest girl being just seven years old. They all play on the nine-hole Park Course at Cams Hall and work hard to perfect their swing on the range.

However, Poppy also goes the extra mile by combining this by practising at Hedge End as well as lessons from her father, Malcolm Cooper who is one of two professional coaches at the club. Malcolm has special responsibility for nurturing the junior section.

The CHEGC Ladies’ Captain, Isabel Kent, and the Men’s Captain, Neil Chalmers are fully committed to supporting the policy of encouraging young players and equal status between gender.

In early October Cams Hall Estate Golf Club will mark its twenty-fifth anniversary which will be celebrated with a black tie dinner for founder members on Thursday 11 October. Jason Neve, the Club’s first professional, will give an after-dinner speech.

On Saturday 13th of October, there will be an auspicious, extended Anniversary Salver and Social Day involving all club members, young and old, male and female. Over 130 players are expected to take part, most of which will compete on the eighteen-hole Creek Course.
