Camberley Golfers Help Heroes Get Back Into Golf

Camberley Heath golf club members have been helping injured service personnel to get back on course with a series of fund-raising events.

Club captains Tony Ticehurst and Fiona Horrocks chose to support the On Course Foundation throughout their term of office and were able to hand over a cheque for more than £23,000 for the charity.

The cheque was presented to On-Course Foundation founder and president John Simpson (pictured centre) by Fiona and Tony at the golf club last week.

The On Course Foundation was officially launched by John Simpson in 2010 to champion the recovery of injured and sick service personnel and veterans through nationwide golf events and employment in the golf industry.

Tony Ticehurst said: “We chose this wonderful charity because it is golf related, which resonated with our members, and also because of the club’s close affiliation with the military in the past. Numerous trophies have been kindly donated to the club by the services over the years.

“We arranged a series of fund-raising events which were attended by the beneficiaries from the foundation when possible. These events were hugely successful and were extremely enjoyable days for our members, who gave us fantastic support throughout the year.”

John Simpson thanked Camberley Heath members for their “fantastic support” and commented:

“Golf is a special sport which has the ability to aid recovery, both physically and mentally. The benefits of playing golf can play a key role in physical rehabilitation, improving both balance and limb coordination. Camaraderie, competitive spirit and concentration are important too, supporting the psychological recovery of our members and helping them find confidence within themselves."

"Many service personnel face the daunting challenge of finding employment after leaving the services and this is something we also help them overcome.”
