To mark International Women’s Day on Friday 8 March, Barnham Broom is celebrating the role of women at the golf club.
Barnham Broom shines through in an often male-dominated profession, with women leading the way in many of its teams. The club is also actively working to encourage women to the game and are in the process of signing up to R&A’s Women’s Golf Charter.
The club recently welcomed new Head of Golf, Karen Woodrow, who has a wealth of experience from her time at England Golf. Karen is already making a lot of positive changes at the club and her expertise and guidance are sure to take Barnham Broom from strength to strength.
At just 21 years old, Ellie Brown has already been a member at Barnham Broom Golf Club for over 10 years. An outstanding golfer, Ellie is currently sitting exams to qualify as a PGA Professional. When she’s not providing advice in the golf shop, she’s out on the course offering tuition to the club’s members. She also runs junior lessons alongside PGA Professionals, Alan Hemsley and Matt Gardner.
Out on the course, Barnham Broom’s Greenkeeper, Kimberley Yeldham, is an essential part of the team; maintaining the highest standards on the golf course. A traditionally male-dominated role, Kimberley, rain or shine, bucks the trend with her enthusiasm for the game and maintaining two outstanding 18-hole golf courses.
On 4 June 2019, Barnham Broom will be taking part in Women’s Golf Day. A fantastic international community dedicated to engaging, empowering and supporting women through golf. In conjunction with the event, the club will be offering free taster sessions on 4 May 2019 for girls as part of the initiative Girls Golf Rocks.
