Cranleigh Golf & Country Club's ladies are chasing the taste of sweet Spanish success - thanks to their magic KitKats.

After five gruelling rounds, the team can take a well-earned break before lining up in the finals of the Annodata UK Golf Club Classic at the spectacular Barceló Montecastillo Golf & Sports Resort in Cadiz, Spain in November.

The Cranleigh ladies have chewed up the opposition with victories over Cottesmore, Farnham, Hendon, Newbury & Crookham and the quarter-final success over Canterbury in the popular team matchplay competition, which was formerly the Mail On Sunday Classic.

But aside from their golfing abilities, skipper Mo Palmer revealed the secret ingredient behind their march to the final, despite admitting her team's hopes were wafer thin when they started their quest.

Palmer said: "We certainly didn't expect to get this far as we had never got this far in the competition before. We've had amazing support from the club's management throughout the campaign and club professional Karl Morgan, who has been offering free lessons to get us match sharp.''

"But we've also had our magic KitKats to help us on our way. Before they went out for the first match, I gave them all a KitKat. So once we got through that one, it has become a superstition for every match and it seems to have worked.''

"I've now got to take a whole load of KitKats with me to Spain. Hopefully, they will be our secret weapon again."

A squad of seven, with handicaps ranging from 10 to 18, will now travel out to Spain with Palmer facing the tough task of selecting five players for the semi-final showdown.
