Ann Peters and Alex Ling secured their third consecutive scratch title at the historic Mothers & Daughters event at Royal Mid-Surrey.
48 pairs contested the annual Mothers & Daughters competition at Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club on Saturday 26 April. A 27-hole foursomes medal, the tournament is usually played on the Pam Barton course. However, this year high tides and course flooding meant players competed over a composite course using holes from the J H Taylor course.
The historic event, which was first played at Royal Mid-Surrey in 1962, always attracts a host of strong pairings. The 96 competitors this year represented 48 clubs, 21 counties and four countries, and included two women with iGolf handicaps.
This year’s winners of the Judy Trophy for the best 27-hole scratch prize were Ann Peters and Alex Ling from Shifnal in Shropshire. They carded a final tournament score of 117 after rounds of 77 and 40, enough to claim a three-shot victory ahead of Michelle Wilce and Abbie Symons (Ipswich).
Peters and Ling are no strangers to victory in the Mothers & Daughters event. This was their third consecutive scratch prize win.
The RMS Trophy (27-hole handicap prize) was won by Joanna and Isobel Jennings from Berkhamstead. Isobel also won the Meg Kent Cup for the best girl under 16 years of age.
Many congratulations also went to Elaine Richards (Sheringham), who had a hole-in-one on the very difficult first hole in the afternoon. We believe this is the first-ever hole-in-one at this event.
Next year’s event will be held on 25 April.
