England’s Emily Toy has come up trumps on her first trip Down Under by winning the women’s New South Wales 36-hole championship at Mona Vale Golf Club.
Toy was four-under par at the Aussie club, finishing one shot clear of Carmen Lim from New Zealand and Korea's Min Yoon who tied in second place.
Compatriot Cara Gainer was just two shots behind in fourth position after rounds of 68 and 75.
Toy from Carlyon Bay and Gainer from Castle Royle are both representing England on a month-long tour of Australia, alongside Bailey Gill from Lindrick, Ben Jones from Northamptonshire County and Tom Sloman from Taunton & Pickeridge.
The men’s New South Wales Medal was delayed by fog and, while regulation play was completed, Sloman is locked in a play-off for the last spot in the match play. He returns to the course at 6.30am to continue his campaign.
If he’s successful he will join Jones, who tied seventh on three-under in the medal, and Gill who shared 22nd place on one over.
Three more English players are among the top 32 who have reached the match play: Callan Barrow (Royal Lytham & St Annes) tied 10th on two-under, Jack Hawksby (The Millbrook) tied 13th on one-under, and Matty Lamb (Hexham) tied 22nd on one over.
