Both the Men's and Women's Amateur Championships kick off today at Woodhall Spa Golf Club, Lincolnshire.

Last year the women's competition was won by Hertfordshire Golf player Ellen Hume after she defeated Curtis Cup star Lily May Humphreys in a dramatic play off at Saunton Golf Club, Devon.

Ellen will be hoping to defend her title in a field that includes Humphreys, recent North East Faldo Series winner Rosie Belsham and winner of the under-1s category Zara Naughton, plus many other England Golf players such as Charlotte Heath and Grace Rigby-Walden.

This is the first time that both the men's and women's competitions have been held simultaniously at the same club, and we can't wait to see what happens.

Today (July 28), Hume and her fellow competitors will play 18 holes stroke play on the Hotchkin course, before moving on to another stroke play round on the Bracken course tomorrow. The leading 16 players will then progress to the match play in the following days with the 36-hole final taking place on Saturday August 1.
