Royal Deeside Golf Week welcomes 260 international golfers and crowns two new champions
The ‘Royal Deeside Golf Week’ (RDGW) saw a sell-out field of players drawn from ten different countries
compete last week over the four Aberdeenshire courses of Aboyne, Banchory, Ballater and Braemar.
An international field
Royal Deeside Golf Week Co-Ordinator Nigel Bradburn said, “We were delighted to welcome golfers from across the UK and competitors from Norway, Holland, Switzerland, Spain, the USA, Western Australia and as far away as Auckland New Zealand, to beautiful Royal Deeside".
New Champions
Jill Kelly, 2024 Women's Champion
Another strong entry of 119 players vying for the Women’s title saw first time visitor Jill Kelly of Seascale Golf Club in Cumbria snatch the hotly contested trophy.
With a last round surge of 43, Jill amassed 149 stableford
points over the four rounds playing off 33-handicap to win by 6 points.
Jill commented “I am absolutely thrilled to have won the RDGW Ladies’ Trophy. It has been a privilege to play four such stunning courses in the beautiful Royal Deeside area. I have met many lovely people during the week and the hospitality at the clubs and in the local area has been second to none. Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of the week and to my playing partners. I look forward to returning next year to defend my trophy”.

John Burrows, 2024 Men's Champion
Playing off a 12-handicap, winner of the Men’s stableford competition was first time visitor John Burrows of North Warwickshire Golf Club.
John posted a 4-round aggregate of 151 to win by 3 points in the 135 strong field.
John said “First and foremost a massive thank you to all the effort from everyone involved in the RDGW. It was fantastic to play four lovely courses, each time with friendly, supportive, fellow golfers. Winning was only a dream, one which happened, and I feel truly blessed. We should all remember ‘These are the good days’. I am thoroughly looking forward to returning for another wonderful battle in 2025".

Wonderful sponsors & support for Royal Deeside Golf Week
Nigel said “What a fabulous week it has been. On Friday at Ballater we were also able to celebrate the first ever Hole-in-One by Hazel Rogers of Easthampstead Ladies Golf Club which was just a fantastic way to finish off the week.” It’s wonderful to see everyone having so much fun, playing exceptionally good golf, and also mixing and socialising so well.”
Nigel added “The success of the Royal Deeside Golf Week would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors: Royal Lochnagar Distillery, Belhaven Brewery, The Fife Arms, Persie Gin and Women & Golf. We also received fantastic support from a number of leading courses in Scotland who generously donated prizes. It is readily apparent that Royal Deeside is a growing golfing destination, and we are already seeing strong demand from players keen to return for the July 2025 tournament. Planning for the event starts tomorrow.”
