A promising young golfer from Milford Haven, Hollie Jenkins, has been handed a summer boost by receiving £750 from leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes.
A promising young golfer from Milford Haven has been handed a summer boost by receiving £750 from a leading housebuilder.
Twelve-year-old Hollie Jenkins is one of the first UK winners of Persimmon Homes’ Healthy Communities campaign.
The scheme will see Persimmon give away more than £600,000 to sporting causes across the UK over the next 10 months, with an overall top national prize of £200,000 in addition to numerous regional donations.
Hollie is a junior member at Milford Haven and Tenby Golf Club and has a handicap of 17. She has represented Pembrokeshire & Carmarthenshire County girls team and the Welsh Inter Counties C&P team and has been selected for the Welsh Development Nursery squad.
Hollie’s dad Mark Jenkins: “Hollie is chuffed to bits to receive this generous donation from Persimmon Homes. She is showing fantastic promise as a golfer and is determined to keep progressing and reducing her handicap. It’s an expensive hobby with travel, accommodation and equipment costs, so this money will be a big help.”
A host of regional prizes of £750 are up for grabs each month for the rest of 2017, with amateur sports teams and individuals aged 21 years and under across the West Wales eligible to apply for the Persimmon Homes West Wales awards. The money is to be spent on sports kit, equipment, coaching or facilities.
A shortlist of 30 will then be created for a national final to be decided on a public vote, with the winning club or individual receiving £200,000 to create a long-lasting legacy and two runners-up receiving £50,000 each.
