English women’s champion Bronte Law, from Cheshire, is one of six top amateurs who have accepted invitations to the first Major championship of the season.
Law – who is ranked fourth in the world – will play in the 2016 ANA Inspiration at Mission Hills Country Club, California, from March 28-April 3. She has previously played in the Ricoh Women’s British Open, finishing 33rd in 2012.
“I'm very excited to be playing in my first major in the US,” said the 20-year-old from Cheshire. “I know that it will be a great learning experience and something that will put me in a good position to further my goals of being on the LPGA.
“I will go into the event treating it the same way I play every tournament - and look forward to teeing it up with the very best in the world.”
Among the other amateurs to receive invitations is world number one Leona Maguire from Ireland.
“We are excited to once again welcome many of the world’s best female amateur golfers to one of the biggest stages in women’s golf,” said Gabe Codding, ANA Inspiration tournament director.
“This year’s amateur invitees will follow in the footsteps of players like Lorena Ochoa, Lydia Ko, Yani Tseng and so many others who participated in the LPGA’s first major before turning professional.”
Law is a member at Bramhall Golf Club and a student at UCLA in California – and holds a superb amateur record.
She has won the English women’s amateur for the past two years and was runner-up in the 2016 South American women’s amateur. She has represented England since she was 14, notably winning a world championship individual bronze medal in 2014. She played for GB&I in the past two Curtis Cup teams, contributing to the win at Nairn in 2012, and is odds on to play in this year’s match. In addition she’s represented Europe in the Junior Solheim and Ryder Cups and has won four times on the US women’s college circuit.
