First-round leader Jennifer Kupcho maintained her spot at the top of the leaderboard at the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur. She has a one-shot lead over Maria Fassi from Mexico.

Kupcho carded a score of 71 in Thursday’s second round for a tournament score of 5-under par. Hot on her heels is 2018 ANNIKA Award winner, Fassi, who birdied two of her final three holes for a 2-under par round of 70 and 4-under for the tournament.

Thailand's Pimnipa Panthong, Sierra Brooks and Kaitlyn Papp, both from the US, all tied for third place at 3-under.

England’s Alice Hewson and Ireland’s Olivia Mehaffey both secured their places in Saturday’s final round. Hewson finished with back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 for a score of 3-under whilst Mehaffey signed for level par.

As the deciding round before the top 30 advance to the final at Augusta National, there was late drama yesterday afternoon as 11 players tied in 21st place at 3-over par. Nine players negotiated pars in the first hole of the playoff, leaving Spain’s Ainhoa Olarra and Alessia Nobilio from Italy in a battle for the final spot. Moving to the par-3 17th, Olarra rolled in a birdie putt from 25 feet to claim the last remaining place.

The full field of 72 players will have the opportunity to play a practice round at Augusta National on Friday before the final round gets underway on Saturday.
