Last month saw the final British Junior Golf Tour UK qualifiers for the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in July, in San Diego. Day 1 of the IMG Academy Qualifier featured golfers aged 11-14 at Maylands Golf Club.
11-12 Girls
The Girls 11-12 Division saw only one player gain a Junior World Championship place, as Sunny Wang showed her class with a fine score of 83.
On her BJGT debut, Matilde Santilli took the second place trophy from Zoe McLean-Tattan in third.
13-14 Girls
After a shaky start, Jessica Pilgrim held her nerve to grab the Girls 13-14 age group by a single shot from Rachel Mackinlay after rounds of 82 and 83, respectively, and with it their places on the 2019 BJGT Team.
They will be joined in this division by Ankita Anand and Ciara Rushmer in third and fourth, as they both met the scoring requirement to secure places.
11-12 Boys
Oliver Toyer claimed the first place on the BJGT JWC Team, as he won he Boys 11-12 Division with a fine round of 80 off the yellow tees, with the field extremely bunched behind him.
William Bailey took the runner-up place on a countback from Antoni Hawkins, after matching 81s, but Antoni’s score was an incredible 13 under his handicap!
James Brash then grabbed the final qualifying place on countback from Oliver Kelloway after they both posted rounds of 82.
Overcast, cold and windy weather made things slightly trickier for the older age groups on Day 2 of the IMG Academy Junior World Championships Qualifier.
15-18 Girls
The girls 15-18 Division also saw a standout performance and a 4-shot victory for Julia Kerrigan, after her 76 topped the field, with Luca Thompson taking the runner-up spot - both girls made the BJGT Team. Hrithika Bhugvandeen and Ciara Egan needed a countback to separate their 86s, with Hrithika having the better back 9.
Unfortunately, Julia Kerrigan, is unable to travel to San Diego in July, but she will be representing the British Junior Golf Tour and the UK in Jakarta in May at the Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World Championship 2019, for which she qualified last October at Woodhall Spa.
13-14 Boys
Jack Lee secured his place on the team bound for San Diego by winning the Boys 13-14 Division, but only by a single shot from Alex Marshall after rounds of 81 and 82 (off the white tees), respectively, with Tyler Weaver (84) taking the final place in the age group.
15-18 Boys
Teddy Hall fired a fine 73 off the white tees, the round of the day, to win the Boys 15-18 Division by a clear four strokes from Ryan Jones and Lewis Beeden, respectively, who required a countback to split their 77s, with George Johnson taking the fourth and final qualifying place a shot further back.
Overall, The British Junior Golf Tour had a great two days at Maylands Golf Club, it’s always a pleasure to visit a club that is truly welcoming to juniors and their families!
The British Junior Golf Tour takes a bit of a break before returning to action with a regular tour competition, at Bourn Golf Club on 5th May, but first up is their first ever affiliated event, taking place in Wales at Swansea Bay Golf Club, on 21st April.
