Carus Green’s fourteen-year-old junior golfer Harriet Barker has won this year’s Cumbrian Junior Masters Tour, a result which caps a successful year for the youngster.

Fourteen-year-old Harriet Barker, who is a pupil at Queen Katherine school in Kendal, triumphed in the event, which was held at Kendal golf club. Now playing off a handicap of just five, Harriet played in the U15’s category, having competed in three Cumbrian junior open competitions throughout the season, to qualify.
The Tour is a major scratch event for boys and girls who are members of golf clubs throughout the county. Founded in 2001, it has witnessed some fantastic golf from some of the most talented junior golfers the county has produced. Providing the perfect platform for competing against the very best junior golfers within the county, past winners have gone on to become full county players, some even progressing to represent their country. Harriet is one such player, having been selected for the U16’s North of England squad for the second year running. Now the season is officially drawing to a close, she will be joining her England team mates at the England golf regional centre at Matfen Hall, Northumbria, for winter training.
“We are delighted with Harriet’s progress and she has made significant strides in her performance this season,” said Mum, Jane Barker.
“Harriet is extremely disciplined, training at the gym at 7am three times per week and practising after school, so we are delighted that her ambitions are being realised. As ever, Carus’ PGA professional, Dave Turner, has been outstanding in his support of Harriet. We met last week to plan her schedule and goals for 2017; she is hoping to drop her handicap even further, and improve her position.”
Going forward, Harriet is hoping to secure a golf scholarship to the United States.
