Beatriz Arenas from Guatemala has claimed the title of Irish Senior Women’s Open Champion after three consistent round at the tournament this week at the Grange Golf Club.

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for 70-year-old Beatriz Arenas. Not only did she proudly represent her country at the World Amateur Team Championships in Carton House, but she has now claimed the title of Irish Senior Women’s Open Champion. Beatriz carded three rounds of 82 to claim the top spot by 2 shots from Sheena McElroy (Grange), Gertie McMullen (The Island) and Gigi Higgins (USA).

Ireland claimed the top spot in the Nations Cup finishing with a total of 491. The team consisted of Sheena McElroy, Carol Wickham and Gertie McMullen and were a full 12 shots clear of the chasing pack.

The Irish Senior Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship returned to the capital this week after having visited the four corners of the country in recent years.

The 54-hole event saw golfers representing the Home Nations as well as the USA, Canada, South Africa, Italy, the Netherlands and Finland.
