The warm, sunny weather of Easter Week saw the Monmouthshire Ladies County Championships held at Newport Golf Club , with the Bronze Division Qualifying Round held a few miles away at The Parc Golf Club.

There was an excellent entry of seventy five over both divisions with four former Champions in the field whilst no fewer than seven of the competitors had represented Wales at various levels from under 14 up to Senior Lady status.

One of the past Champions, Lauren Hillier of Newport Golf Club, achieved the best gross score of 71 against the par of 74 and Competition Standard Scratch of 76 but, unfortunately, because of a family bereavement she was unable to take her place as number one seed in the matchplay stages and attempt to add to her five previous triumphs and also achieve a 'hat trick' of Championship wins following her successes in 2015 & 16. That meant Jordan Ryan, also of Newport Golf Club, runner up in 2016, entered the matchplay stages as number one seed with Rhiannon Thomas of St. Pierre Golf Club seeded number two.

In the Bronze Division strokeplay round at The Parc the gross scores of 90 scored by both Rachel Geatches of St. Mellons Golf Club and Adelaide Francis of Newport Golf Club saw them move up the road to Newport Golf Club as numbers one and two seeds in the matchplay stage.

The Championship matches went with seedings as Jordan Ryan beat Ann Harrison, a past Champion in Danielle Cobley and Wales Senior International Patricia Fernon to make the final whilst Rhiannon Thomas had to overcome County Secretary, Mallory Armstrong, and two Wales internationals in Ffion Vineall and Angharad Evans to secure her place in the final. This proved to be a tremendous tussle, the wonderful golf was played in an excellent spirit with Rhiannon eventually winning on the nineteenth hole.

The Bronze Division final was played between two twelve year olds, both from Newport Golf Club and both in Golf Union of Wales Junior Squads. Adelaide Francis reached the final by beating JulieThomas, Christine Jones and the County Assistant Secretary, Jackie Davies, whilst Megan Vineall overcame Annie Davies, another junior in India Lesbirel and number one seed Rachel Geatches on her way to the final. Adelaide then won a tight game to become Bronze Division Champion.

There were further successes for County Juniors in the Bronze Division as Ruby Dark of Bryn Meadows Golf Club won Best nett with 65 with Lottie Raymond of Llanwern Golf Club second best Nett. The prizes for the best Senior Ladies in the Championships were won by Patricia Fernon of St. Pierre Golf Club (Best Gross) and Rachel Geatches of St. Mellons Golf Club (Best Nett).

The Team prize of The Paton Cup awarded to the club with the best four nett scores in the Championship was won by the Newport Golf Club quartet of Lauren Hillier (72), Jordan Ryan(73), Adelaide Francis(66) and Megan Vineall(75).
