With the golf season just getting started at this side of the Atlantic, US College Golf is coming to the end of the season, with a number of great Irish performances.

Coming off winning back-to-back tournaments, the eighth-ranked Duke women’s golf team has been preparing for the NCAA Regionals. The Blue Devils will travel to either Columbus, Ohio, Lubbock, Texas, Athens, Ga., or Albuquerque, N.M. on May 8 – 10, the selection for which will be made live on Golf Channel on Thursday April 27th. However, in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, Leona Maguire is listed No. 1.

The Cavan native, No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and is having one of the best seasons in Blue Devil history. Maguire has registered three victories and eight top 10 finishes in eight tournaments, including a win at the ACC Championship at the Reserve Golf Club, Pawleys Island, South Carolina. She currently features a 69.68 stroke average, which is one of the lowest in NCAA history.

University of Denver Senior and Holywood native Jessica Carty recently helped her Pioneers team to a win the Summit League Championship for a fourth consecutive year. The Summit League, this year celebrating its 35th season of Division 1 athletics, includes 9 institutions across a number of states.

Denver entered the final round two shots behind, but a tournament-low round of 293, which included a level-par 72 from Carty edged the Pioneers to a six stroke victory. The team will also now await the Golf Channel announcement to see where they will head for the NCAA Regionals.

Olivia Mehaffey, Arizona State Freshman, has had some alterations to make since starting at ASU in September 2016. Like Maguire and Carty would have had to do before her, Mehaffey had to adjust to American culture, food, education and a new style of golf courses that couldn’t be further from the links of Royal County Down.

However as the end of her first season approaches she has recorded back-to-back top-10 finishes at the Clover Cup (6th) and the Anuenue Spring Break Classic (5th) in Maui as well as most recently, finishing T22 at the Pac – 12 Women’s Championship at Sewailo Golf Club, Tucson. Olivia has added depth to the already strong Sun Devil’s team roster and will appear alongside her teammates on the Golf Channel today 27th April between 4 – 5pm Irish time, which can be viewed live on www.golfchannel.com Live TV.
