The 2017 Junior Girls Open takes place at Droitwich Golf Club on Thursday 13th April (Maunday Thursday) and is open to all girl golfers aged 18 and under on 1st January 2017.
Thirty six years ago, Droitwich organised the first Girls’ Open in the country, thanks to the dedicated lady members of the club who felt strongly about supporting young people taking up the sport. Today, the event continues to be an important date on the Junior Golfers’ calendar with players entering from all parts of the country.
This year’s competition is open to all ages and stages of Junior Girls’ Golf. Beginners can enjoy their first taste of competition over nine holes, encouraged by club members and their parents. More experienced players enter the eighteen hole competition with the winner qualifying for the Daily Telegraph Junior Golf Competition which could take them towards the final, last year played in Portugal.
Over the years, the club has proudly observed the progress of girls who have regularly entered the competition. Several players advanced to professional golf with Helen Dobson who became British Ladies Champion, being just one example. It is a joy to watch these young players take this sporting event so seriously and satisfying to the club in the knowledge of giving the opportunity for young players to experience a special day for their chosen sport.
The 18 hole competition, open to girls with an active CONGU handicap of 36 or under, is £8.00. The 9 hole competition, where there are no restrictions on entry is £5.00. The entry form can be found on the club website www.droitwichgolfclub.co.uk or via Golf Empire.
